Pune (Representative): In a significant move to boost the distribution of natural gas and petroleum products across the country, the Central Government has issued a new order on March 24, 2026. The order introduces a streamlined regulatory framework for laying gas pipelines, maintenance, expansion, and development of related infrastructure. This information was shared by BJP national spokesperson and All India Petrol Dealers Association core committee member Ali Daruwala.

According to Daruwala, the new policy emphasizes increasing the supply of piped natural gas (PNG) to domestic consumers, with the aim of reducing dependence on LPG. In areas where natural gas pipeline connectivity is available, consumers will be encouraged to switch from LPG to PNG.

He further stated that pipeline projects were often delayed due to multiple permissions, high charges, land access issues, and resistance from residential societies. The new order seeks to eliminate these hurdles by simplifying the approval process and allowing unhindered excavation in many cases.

Under the new guidelines, both public and private entities will be required to grant permissions for pipeline projects within a stipulated time frame. If approvals are not granted within the specified period, they will be deemed approved automatically.

Importantly, no entity will be allowed to obstruct pipeline installation in residential areas. Additionally, if residents refuse to take PNG connections, LPG supply to such premises may be discontinued after a defined period.

The Central Government has highlighted the need for fuel diversification to ensure long-term energy security. Considering global challenges, especially in the Gulf region, strengthening domestic gas distribution infrastructure has been prioritized.

The move is expected to provide a major boost to City Gas Distribution (CGD) projects across the country and promote the use of cleaner fuel in both urban and rural areas, Daruwala added.
